I am a dedicated teacher who plans his lessons individually for each student, based on their current level, needs, and interests. My emphasis is on making practicing fun while keeping the lessons challenging. The content of my lessons includes technique (efficiency of movement, injury prevention), creativity (cultivating one’s own ideas, grooves, fills), as well as developing independence (coordination) and soloing. I am proficient in many styles of music, including Funk, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Pop, R’n’B, Soul, Reggae, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, other Caribbean and Latin styles, and others. I have a Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Los Angeles, as well as a Diploma from my 2 years of study at the Drummers Collective in New York City. I have been a drummer for 17 years, playing in several original and cover bands of various styles in New York City and in Germany. I am currently an active musician in LA, playing live, recording in the studio and sharing my knowledge with students of all ages and levels.
Please take a look at some of my students’ testimonials below.

“He is always prepared and on time. Michael is very knowledgeable and able to explain concepts in various ways. He understands, that as an adult, I may not always have the time to practice so he goes at a pace that works for me. Very professional.”
– Adriana G.

– Eleanor N.

“My 14 year old daughter just loves this instructor!! He’s awesome!!”
– Jamie T.
“Michael has a very straight forward approach to teaching. Whether it was answering a technique question or developing new ways to manuever around the set, each lesson consisted of my thoroughly learning new information in a practical and very efficient manner. Being a percussionist myself, we naturally have good rapport with the language we communicate with. Michael’s way of personal interaction alongside his instrument is certainly one of the best forays into any practice and study of music, for those just starting or already proficient.”
